![]() NCRD PhilosophyIt offers a new online working platform for physicians, health professionals patients and their families, students and other persons and organizations with an interest in medical matters. The extranet area of the new portal is reserved for communication among professionals and scientists in the field. Above and beyond its own initiatives and patient related services, NCRD sees its role as that of a catalyst for developments related to communication and support for relevant activities of other groups working along the same lines. NCRD gives its backing to congresses and scientific projects, and supports national and international health organizations. It is not therefore in competition with (online) patient associations in the field of rare diseases but complements the information and assistance offered there with a number of additional services, including support for and testing of the “HAE Alert System”, the emergency patient care system. A growing number of complement related diseases are covered in the public content pages of the portal and within the central NCRD knowledge data bank. Without compromising their reliability, all online publications and contributions are written as far as possible in jargon-free language, in order to make them available to those without specialist medical knowledge and to patients and their families in a readily understandable form. With regard to its medical subject matter, the chief areas of interest of the NCRD Network lie within the complement system, and focus on inflammation processes and HAE diseases. The new portal also aims to provide information to those doctors who are not experts in the field but are confronted with complement related diseases and may need diagnostic guidance and therapeutic information. Scientific communication and exchange in the environment of NCRD is restricted to the extranet of the platform. It is accessible only to medical professionals, who require a password. Appropriate online tools are available in this portal area for the purposes of scientific work, communication and the exchange of knowledge. From the scientific angle, the work of the NCRD is about achieving a more global view of the disease pattern in question and thus arousing a wider interest in the scientific research into the mechanism and treatment of complement related diseases. The interest here is directed towards disease related scientific findings and is thus focused on the real interrelationship between science and disease. The portal publishes relevant results, insofar as they have been released by the scientific board of the NCRD. All data presented by NCRD is intended for information only. It is not suitable for diagnosis or treatment and should not be used for such purposes. Please consult your doctor if you require detailed information regarding a specific disease or have particular medical questions regarding health problems. |
